Talk Moves - Home to School Connection

  • We are beginning to use prompts in the classroom to have students explain their thinking. These tools support thinking, talk formats provide different ways to organize students for conversation, and ideas for creating a classroom where respect and equal access to participation are valued norms. This also creates a culture where students are actively listening to their classmates then responding to their ideas. We are teaching students how to agree and disagree with ideas not people. Wrestling with content and ideas are important while also valuing the person putting their ideas forward.

  • Please take a moment to talk to your child about Talk Moves and incorporate these into your conversations to model these skills to our young learners. You may have already heard your child using these phrases and wondered where they came from. We need your help to solidify this best practice with all Little Huskies!

Celebrations
Mrs. Mertz (3rd Grade Keewahdin Teacher) has accepted a position as a Behavior Intervention Coach within the district! We are happy to see her fulfill the next step in her personal and professional goals however, we are sad to have an outstanding teacher part ways. Many other schools within the district will benefit from her expertise. We will begin interviewing candidates soon. Once the new teacher is hired and in place, Mrs. Mertz will then begin in her new role.
Thank you Mrs. Richert for donating a bench for our “Buddy Bench” project. A Buddy Bench is a spot you go to when you need a friend to play with during recess.
Fire Captain Shagena presented information to keep us safe from fires during a schoolwide assembly on Tuesday. He also supervised a fire drill where all students were in the gym and had to exit within 2 minutes, which they did in a quick and safe manner!
We had another great turnout for our PTA meeting last Tuesday night!
Keewahdin has been earned a Silver Award by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the Healthier US School Challenge: Smarter Lunchroom award for the exemplary steps of, leadership and teamwork employed to make changes to the school’s nutrition environment; improve the quality of the foods served; provide students with more nutritious, healthy choices; and, enhance the physical activity program.  To acknowledge this achievement, the school received an award plaque, a banner to display, and a small monetary incentive award ($1,500) for meeting these criteria.

Remember, fantastic prizes have been secured for the Husky Hustle! Students raising $50+ will be entered into drawings for the prizes. Checkout the Keewahdin PTA Facebook page to see the American Doll, Frozen Dolls, and Legos students have a chance to win.
